За основу взят топик с этого форума (

создаем в используемом шаблоне сайта папку /html/com_virtuemart/category
В него помещаем файл, который копируем из components/com_virtuemart/views/category/tmpl/default.php и немного его изменяем.
Создавать папку и класть туда файл необходимо, чтобы изменения не затерлись при обновлении компонента.
